English Minor with a Literature Concentration

For students who enter UM in Fall 2023 or later. All other students may choose to follow these requirements for the English minor with a concentration in Literature, or they may follow the old requirements listed below.

Requirements

The student minoring in English with a concentration in Literature completes, with a grade of C- or better in each course and with an overall GPA in the minor of 2.0, at least 15 credits at the 200-level or above beyond the credits earned for first-year writing.

The 15 credits must be distributed as follows:

1. Select ONE LITERATUREcourse at the 200-level;

2. Select ONE LITERATURE course numbered 200 or above that fulfills the Diversity and Global Understanding area requirement;

3. Select TWO LITERATURE courses at the 300- or 400-level;

4. Select ONE ENG ELECTIVE numbered 200 or above (can include a creative writing workshop).

Old Requirements

For students who entered UM before Fall 2023. These students may also choose to follow the current requirements for the English minor with a concentration in Literature. To do this, please contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies.

The student minoring in English with a concentration in Literature completes, with a grade of C- or better in each course and with an overall GPA in the minor of 2.0, at least 15 credits at the 200-level or above beyond the credits earned for first-year writing.

The 15 credits must be distributed as follows:

1. One literature course at the 200-level;

2. A second literature course, at either the 200-level or the 300-level;

3. A third literature course, at the 400-level;

4. Two additional English courses other than ENG 106 (i.e., any courses designated ENG and numbered 200 or above).
